Ferrara - Italy, city of the Renaissance Print E-mail

"Ferrara lies right in the middle of the 'Pianura Padana' where you are plunged into the past, although remaining in harmony with the present." From 1995 on, UNESCO has included the historical centre of Ferrara on the list of World Cultural Heritage as a wonderful example of a town planned in the Renaissance with its historical centre still intact.. Furthermore Ferrara has a prestigious University where students from all over the world meet. Ferrara is known worldwide as the "The City of Bicycles" for the great use of this means of transport by its inhabitants, The percentage of people using bicycles is 30,7% the highest in Europe, against 30% in Copenhagen and 27,8% in Netherlands.

Geographically Ferrara is 1 hour and 15 minutes away from Venice, 30 minutes from the coast, 1 hour and 45 minutes from Florence, and it can be easily reached either by plane (International Airport G. Marconi of Bologna), with low cost companies (Bologna-Forlì and Venezia-Treviso Airports) or by train.

Ferrara is one of the capitals of the Renaissance. The Court of the House of Este left many timeless monuments in its wake: its beautiful gardens make it one of the greenest cities in Europe, while cinema, literature, modern art exhibitions and the university are what keep it intensely alive as its inhabitants daily go about on their bikes. Ferrara's most famous image is certainly that of its grand Renaissance, the age of splendour of the Estense court, which has left indelible traces everywhere: in the colossal Addizione Erculea project, in the impressive pictorial cycles belonging to the Quattrocento and Cinquecento and in the Last Judgement by Bastianino.

Many events take place in the beautiful city of Ferrara throughtout year like Traditional Festivals, Historical recallings, Concerts, Cinema, Sport, Music and literature. find ou more information about events in Ferrara or FerraraSette - eventi in città
